While I can’t take credit for the combination of ingredients in this delicious cocktail, I can take credit for drinking enough of them until I could replicate it perfectly at home. The Black Dahlia is a cocktail that I’ve had the pleasure to enjoy on several occasions with my photography cohort at Oak and Almond Restaurant in Norwalk Connecticut. It’s the perfect tequila cocktail in that it pleases everyone from tequila snobs, like myself, to the more casual tequila drinker and even non-tequila drinkers.
The Black Dahlia has just the right level of sweet and the tequila is perfectly balanced by ginger liqueur and mole bitters. Mole bitters are the secret ingredient that gives this cocktail a slightly complex flavor. You should be able to find them in a good quality liquor store. If you can’t find them at a store, Amazon Prime will get them to you in 2 days, or you can substitute with orange bitters which are a bit easier to find. Creme de cassis gives it a hint of sweetness and is responsible for the beautiful color. I love the freshness of the lime, so I tend to toss in some extra wedges when serving.
I’ll be serving these Black Dahlia’s on Cinco de Mayo and all summer long!
