If you’ve follow my blog it’s pretty clear I’m all about vodka and tequila. It’s been quite an adventure trying to sample all of the new tequilas that have taken liquor stores by storm… But now, Mezcal is moving in and I’m looking forward to working my way through at least a few bottles. Mezcal is similar in flavor to tequila with a more complex smokey flavor which makes it great to drink straight but also adds compelling flavor to cocktails.
I picked up this bottle of los Amantes Mezcal Joven. It’s a young Mezcal (no aging) and to complement the smokiness it has a bit of citrus, sweet and herb flavor to it, making it perfect to mix into a cocktail.
My recipe for Tropical Mezcal Cooker is easy and delicious. I love having a great cocktail at home but don’t want to fuss too much with the ingredients or the process. To give this cocktail a taste of the tropics, I used tamarind nectar which is a sweet, sour and tangy and coconut pineapple water. (plain coconut water will work too). You can find both of these product in just about any supermarket. Then I added the Mezcal and finished with a squeeze of lime – refreshing and delicious!
Cheers!
