It’s not often that Cinco de Mayo and the Kentucky Derby fall on the same day. But when they do, that’s just twice as much reason to celebrate. And when I say celebrate, I mean with a delicious cocktail, of course.
This recipe for a super easy and delicious version of a classic Mint Julep uses just a few ordinary ingredients that you can muddle together and have ready to drink in just minutes!
My twist on a mint julep uses Roca Patron Resposado, which just happens to be my favorite tequila, instead of bourbon. It has a slightly more complex flavor than your typical tequila as it’s aged in bourbon barrels, giving it a subtle bourbon finish. The smooth flavor and bourbon finish make it the perfect choice for this refreshing Julep style cocktail. Cheers!

- 1/2 orange , cut into quarters
- 2 large mint sprigs (about 6 to 8 large leaves)
- 2 teaspoons honey
- 2 ounces Patron Roca Tequila
- seltzer (optional)
-
Place orange quarters, mint and honey in rocks glass. Muddle these together until the leaves begin to break down.
-
Fill the glass 3/4 full with ice, and add the tequila. Stir and add splash of seltzer if desired. Garnish with orange slices and a sprig of mint.
